Historical Note: The bond was called early but still retains significant historical interest.

This is a bearer bond which means that ownership is assumed to be the person that physically holds it.

In 1840, the Republic of Texas was recognized as an independent nation by the United States. To support its finances, Texas issued engraved $100 and $500 bonds like this one. Though the debt has long since been cancelled, this bond holds significant memorabilia value.

Signed by David G. Burnet, Interim President of the Republic of Texas (March 17, 1836), who also served as Vice President under Mirabeau B. Lamar and Secretary of State in 1846. Burnet was instrumental in negotiating the Treaty of Velasco with Santa Anna, which helped establish the southern border of Texas.

Also signed by Charles De Mone, Commissioner.
